What temperature of water should i wash my hoodie in?

Okay, i know this is kind of a stupid question but here it goes: I have a new fleece hoodie that i need to wash. The tag says i should wash it in cold water, but last time i washed a fleece hoodie in cold water the fleece turned all hard and it wasn't really comfortable to wear anymore. I have some fleece sweatpants where the tag says to wash them in warm water, and when i washed them in warm water, the fleece stayed soft, so now i'm thinking that it might be better to wash my hoodie in warm water instead of cold like the tag said. What should i do?
