How difficult is it to write a book, and how difficult is it to earn anything at all from writing?

Writing a book is relatively easy but writing a saleable book is quite difficult. Making money from writing a book takes skill and a lot of luck. As for the length of time it takes - well it could be anything. I have taken ten months to write a novel and I have also written a 50,000 word book in eight days.
